Brrr-illiant Tips for a Warm & Insured Winter!

frozen pipes

The recent drop in temperature has us searching for our faucet covers! Our weather is getting more and more unpredictable and if you find yourself dealing with below-freezing temps during the winter (or any time of year!) it's important to take a few precautions and prep for the colder weather.

Here are a few tips to get your home in working order before you experience any frozen pip issues:

  • Close inside valves supplying water to outdoor faucets and hookups

  • Open outdoor faucets to allow residual water to drain; be sure to keep them open during the cold months, while the water supply is turned off

  • Keep garage doors closed to help protect water pipes located in the garage

  • Open the doors on the cabinets where the plumbing is located. This can help allow warmer air to circulate the pipes.

  • For pipes that are at risk of freezing (both hot and cold pipes), let water drip from faucets.

  • Keep the heat in your home set at a minimum of 55 degrees.

If you find you have a frozen pipe, don't panic! The most important thing is to locate and close the valve before temperatures rise above freezing.
