Be Prepared

It is helpful to keep the following items on hand in case you are involved in an accident…

  1. Your insurance ID card, vehicle registration and list of emergency contacts.

  2. First-aid kit and medical card listing allergies to any medication, or special conditions.

  3. Flashlight

  4. Blanket

  5. Flares

  6. Jumper cables

  7. Rags or paper towels

  8. Trash bags

  9. Disposable camera (if your cell phone does not have one.)

  10. Be Safe

  11. Move your car to a safe nearby location, but be careful not to leave the scene.

  12. Check to see if anyone is hurt. Call 911 for medical assistance.

  13. Contact the police. They will let you know if an officer needs to be present at the scene.

  14. Stay Calm

  15. Don’t panic – remain calm and polite

  16. Do not admit fault

  17. Cooperate with the police

  18. Exchange information

  19. Collect contact information for anyone who was there, including other drivers, witnesses, and the tow company if your car is towed.

  20. Obtain police report information

  21. Collect information about all vehicles involved:

  22. Year, make, and model

  23. License plate number

  24. Insurance carrier

  25. Insurance policy number

  26. Report the accident

Call the number on the back of your insurance card as soon as possible to report the accident.
