As summer storms roll through the Portland Metro area, preparing for potential damage from floods, fires, and strong winds is crucial.

Here are some tips to help you stay safe and protect your property:

Develop a Plan

Discuss evacuation routes, meeting points, and communication strategies with your household. You should have a couple of meeting points you can go to and discuss with family and friends who you would stay with should your family have to evacuate.

Make a List

In this overwhelming moment, having a list of essential items is more important than ever. Make sure to include important documents, emergency contacts, and a plan for your family.

  • Clothes

  • Medication

  • Jewelry

  • Important Documents

  • Cash

  • Phone, Chargers, Laptop

  • Non-perishable food

  • Water (at least a gallon per person for several days)

  • Flashlights & Batteries

  • First aid kit

Stay Informed

In the event of a fire, download the Watch Duty app for real-time updates on wildfire activity. Understanding evacuation plans for your area is also crucial.

Flood Prevention

Consider sandbags if you live in a flood-prone area. Make sure your gutters and drainage systems are clear.

Wind Damage

Secure outdoor furniture, trim trees near your home and inspect your roof for loose shingles or tiles.

Remember, being prepared can make a significant difference in a crisis.
